Hordes of Hell

Description

Hordes of Hell is my end of year group project in which I am the main level designer/gameplay programmer. Utilizing the unreal engine I learned a lot about visual coding through the blueprint system. I created the main blueprints for Hordes of Hell. Using the Action RPG tool kit I created abilities for the Players and enemies.

I drafted plans and used the tile set created by one of our artists to design the level, later set dressing the environment with our prop artist assets.

Going through all stages of production I learnt alot about team co-ordination and how to manage a team to deliver to a schedule. We used notion, teams and Git Hub desktop to organise our work and met weekly to discuss progress and blockers.

Throughout the Project I did the following

  • Created multiple greyboxes

  • Made abilities and items using ARPG ability system

  • Made multiple blueprints of required features

  • Edited montages and implemented particle effects

My Development Process

Before starting the project we had a two week pre production phase where I created multiple drafts of a floorplan. I originally had an idea for a more vertical level where the higher the player went the harder the enemies got and better the loot they could find.

After starting the project I began by creating a rudimentary grey box which I would tweak throughout the first few weeks of production.

Finalizing the general layout I moved into utilising the tile set given to me by our artists. I replaced the environment and started adding placeholder assets available.

after more minor changes to the environment I finished the placement of the walls and began set dressing the level with our prop artist, finalizing the level.
